    An Iraqi security source tells Sputnik that a rocket struck an area close to the US Embassy in the Green Zone of Baghdad, Iraq,

    "An explosion has recently hit the Green Zone after a rocket had fallen near the US Embassy inside the zone. Sirens have sounded in the Green Zone," the source told Sputnik late Wednesday. 

    Reports have yet to emerge regarding possible damage or victims from the blast. 

    Kurdistan 24 journalist Barzan Sadiq posted footage of impact area in central Baghdad, alleging the projectile fired was a Katyusha rocket. Sirens and billowing smoke are observed at the scene. 

    Some incoming reports suggest that multiple rockets may have landed in the area. 

    The latest development comes weeks after a rocket attack in the area on May 19 caused "minor damage to the wall of the house." However, no casualties were reported as a result.
