Violent protests hit the Middle Eastern country last month as thousands took to the streets to oppose the state of emergency imposed by the government due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The measures were declared on 16 March and are set to last until 11 May.

A demonstration is being held at Martyrs' Square in the Lebanese capital, as people protest against the government amid a deteriorating socio-economic situation and depreciation of the national currency.

Protesters previously clashed with police and vandalised several bank offices in the city of Tripoli. The outbreak of violence came after a man died from his wounds following a demonstration on 27 April.
