Israeli army hit a rocket launcher in Syria, which fired earlier rockets that, as IDF earlier reported, appeared to be "errant fire from the internal fighting in Syria".

Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) reported that the Israeli army made a strike on a rocket launcher located in Syria, which, according to IDF had launched two rockets that crossed the border with Israel.

IDF said on its Twitter account that as a response to the two rockets, fired from Syria, an Israeli warplane targeted the launcher and IDF's artillery targeted the surrounding area.

The defense forces also warned that they would "act against any attempt to compromise Israeli sovereignty".

Earlier in the day, IDF reported that it had identified a projectile launch at Israeli territory from Syria. The defense forces said back then that the rocket fire appeared to be "errant fire from the internal fighting in Syria".

Tensions between Israel and Syria have been running high in the recent weeks — especially in the Golan Heights — amid the Syrian army's offensive to clear remaining pockets of terrorists in the country's south. Israel meanwhile has intensified its operations in Syria, citing the alleged Iranian military presence as a pretext for strikes.

A day earlier, the Israeli military shot down a Syrian warplane that allegedly violated the country's airspace.

Golan Heights is a disputed territory, which Israel occupied as a result of the 1967 Six-Day War with Syria and annexed the territory in 1981. The annexation has never been recognized by the international community.
