The Israeli police have confirmed that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was questioned for several hours at his residence in Jerusalem on Saturday.

TEL AVIV (Sputnik) — Saturday's interview marked the sixth time the prime minister was questioned in the course of police probes into alleged corruption.

"We confirm that the prime minister was questioned today [Saturday] for several hours in his Jerusalem residence as part of the investigation led by Lahav 433 [National Crime Unit]," the police said.

The police are carrying out two investigations regarding the prime minister: Case 1000, focusing on whether Netanyahu provided anything in return for expensive gifts from businessmen, and Case 2000, an alleged deal between Netanyahu and Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper publisher Arnon Mozes on exchange of reduced critical coverage of the prime minister in return for weakening of the competing newspaper.

The prime minister has refuted allegations of illegal activities saying that that media reports about his alleged close links to the publisher were designed to mislead the public.

Local media earlier reported that Israeli police were in possession of recordings of talks between the prime minster and the media mogul.
