Sporadic outbreaks of violence have been taking place in Syria, despite the reconciliation agreement being implemented among the warring parties in the country.

DAMASCUS (Sputnik) — Two people were killed by mortar shells in the Mezzeh 86 district in central Damascus on Sunday, a Sputnik correspondent reported from the scene.

The first shell exploded near a residential quarter causing no damage. The second one hit a car, killing two people.

Meanwhile, terrorists have been shelling residential areas of the Syrian capital for six days after the army managed to repel a militant attack in the city of Harast, an eastern suburb of Damascus.

Russia, Turkey and Iran signed a memorandum on the establishment of safe zones in war-torn Syria as part of the Astana talks on Syrian settlement. The four zones include the northwestern Idlib province and parts of the neighboring Latakia, Hama and Aleppo provinces, the north of the central Homs province, eastern Ghouta near Damascus and certain parts of the country's southern Deraa and Quneitra provinces. The memorandum on these de-escalation zones took effect on May 6.

The Syrian civil war has been raging for six years, with government forces fighting against both Syrian opposition groups and numerous extremist and terrorist groups, including Daesh.
