UNITED NATIONS (Sputnik) — Russia has filed a draft resolution to the UN Security Council proposing the extension of a UN body’s mandate probing the use of chemical weapons in Syria, a diplomatic UN source has told Sputnik.
The document seeks to extend the mandate of the United Nations and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (UN-OPCW) Joint Investigative Mechanism until May 2018.

Russia has also suggested that experts should be sent to the Syrian village of Khan Sheikhoun and the government's Shayrat air base to look into allegations of a government chemical attack that took place on April 4, 2017.
The experts should be authorized to conduct a comprehensive investigation at Khan Sheikhoun using all existing methods and take samples at the air base for traces of the sarin nerve agents that was allegedly stored there.
