Iraqi Delegate Praises Russia's Position on Kurdistan's Independence Referendum
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Baghdad rejects the referendum in Kurdistan, it is illegal from the UN viewpoint, Iraqi Ambassador to Russia Haidar Mansour Hadi said.

The authorities of autonomous Iraqi Kurdistan have set a referendum on secession from Iraq for September 25. The step by the Kurdish authorities has been criticized by Baghdad, as well as Tehran and Washington.

"First of all I want to note that the referendum, which the Iraqi Kurds have scheduled for September 25, is rejected by the Iraqi government. It contradicts our constitution," Hadi said in an interview with the Izvestia newspaper.

"And from the viewpoint of the UN, which is not involved in this referendum in any way, it is illegal," he said.
