Taliban Commanders Among 8 Killed in US Drone Strike in Afghanistan

At least eight militants of Taliban movement, outlawed in Russia, including three senior local commanders, were killed in a US drone strike in Afghanistan's eastern province of Laghmna, local media reported Friday citing the provincial government.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to Khaama Press agency, the airstrike was carried out late on Wednesday, and the two Taliban leaders were identified as Shah Jahan and Taza Gul.

Afghanistan has long been suffering from unstable political, social and security situation due to the simmering militant insurgency, including that of Taliban and Islamic State (IS) terrorist groups, outlawed in Russia. The Afghan National Defense and Security Forces have been conducting joint operations to combat terrorism across the country.
