The Turkish forces eliminated two militants of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), listed by Ankara as a terrorist organization, in the country's eastern Tunceli province, local governor's office said in a statement on Thursday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The operation was carried out by police and gendarmerie units with the support of the aerial drone in the settlement of Dolukup.

"Two terrorists were seized dead, together with their weapons," the statement said, as quoted by the Anadolu news agency.

The tensions between Turkey and Kurdish militant groups seeking independence escalated in July 2015, leading to frequent acts of terror by the PKK and regular anti-PKK operations by the Turkish government. The PKK is also listed as a terrorist organization in the United States and the European Union.
