Lebanese Security Forces Detain 4 Daesh-Affiliated Terrorists in Country's North

Lebanese security forces uncovered a terrorist cell affiliated with the Daesh group (outlawed in Russia) near the city of Tripoli in the country's north, local media reported on Monday, adding that all four of the cell's members were detained.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The terrorists were tracked down due to the efforts of the information department of Lebanon's Internal Security Forces, according to the country's National News Agency (NNA). The militants were detained during raids conducted on July 24-25.

The detained individuals were reportedly contacting Daesh leaders in Syria and Iraq to plan terrorist acts both in Lebanon and abroad.

One of the cell's members holds dual citizenship of Lebanon and France, the news agency added.

During the arrest, the security officers also seized weapons and military ammunition, electronic devices, and detailed maps of certain Lebanese regions.

Since the beginning of Syrian civil war in 2011, Lebanese authorities have faced a number of security challenges. Lebanese army and Shia militia Hezbollah have been on high alert amid the conflict and have been preventing attempts of terrorists to penetrate Lebanon's territory.
