DAMASCUS (Sputnik) — Khaled Alkhateb, a journalist working for the RT Arabic who died in Syria, was killed in an anti-tank missile attack carried out by militants from the Daesh (outlawed in Russia) terrorist group near a recently liberated settlement, a source in the Syrian Defense Ministry told Sputnik on Sunday.

Earlier in the day, the RT broadcaster reported that Alkhateb had been killed during a rocket fire carried out by Daesh in Syria's western province of Homs. A representative in the Syrian Information Ministry confirmed the death of Alkhateb to Sputnik, adding that the Daesh attack also injured a cameraman working for the RT.

"The correspondent of the RT Arabic died and the cameraman was injured when an anti-tank missile landed near a settlement recently liberated from Daesh in Syria's Homs province," the source in the defense ministry said.

According to Alkhateb's social media accounts, he was born in 1992 and started working for the RT Arabic on June 12, 2017.
