The events can last for several days and cover hundreds of miles through day or night and in any weather conditions. The race usually takes place in stages and through checkpoints.
It is an extreme test of skill and endurance. And that makes it one of the world’s premier and most exciting motor sports.
This year in Syria 30 participants competed for the first prize.
At the moment, Ahmed Krizan, who defeated the previous winner, Ahmed Hamsho, has taken first place in the prime stage of the race.
The head of the Syrian Automobile Club, Walid Shaaban, told Sputnik, “In the past years the level of the automobile sport in Syria has grown very actively and Syrian sportsmen have successfully competed in regional competitions.
He further said that right now, however, the rally racing does not have enough support from the Syrian Ministry of Sport.
But there is no doubt that holding such sport tournaments and competitions eloquently testifies to the growth of the level of security and the return of a peaceful life to the country, which has been torn by war for the past six years.
