A ceasefire control mechanism brokered by Russia, the United States and Jordan in southwestern Syria is nearly ready, Jordanian Minister of State for Media Affairs Mohammad Momani said Tuesday.

AMMA (Sputnik) — The southwestern Syria ceasefire entered into force at noon on June 9 after an agreement had been reached by Russia, the United States and Jordan.

The deal was announced by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on June 7 after the first face-to-face meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump.

"The ceasefire monitoring instrument is now in the final stages of formulation," Momani told the Kuwait News Agency.

Last Thursday, Trump praised the ceasefire which "saved many lives" and has been generally holding.
