The Syrian Arab Army regained control over a number of settlements in the southern part of the Raqqa province and in western Deir ez-Zor, including four oil fields, according to a source.

DAMASCUS (Sputnik) – Syrian government troops established control over four oil fields in the provinces of Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor, a Syrian military source told Sputnik on Saturday.

“The Syrian Arab Army regained control over a number of settlements in the southern part of the Raqqa province and in western Deir ez-Zor. The control over four oil fields … was restored,” the source said.

The source added that the Syrian government troops were carrying out offensives against the Daesh terror group, outlawed in Russia, in the provinces of Raqqa, Homs, Suwayda and Hama.

Syria has been engulfed in a civil war for over six years with the government troops fighting against numerous opposition factions as well as terrorist groups.
