An explosive device went off in Al Zahra district of the Syrian city of Homs, killing three and wounding 16, a source in the Homs department of the Syrian Information Ministry told Sputnik on Thursday.

BEIRUT (Sputnik) – The news comes amid a nationwide Syrian ceasefire backed by Russia and Turkey that came into force on December 30, and has been holding up in general, despite continued reports of violations. The UN Security Council passed a resolution in December supporting the effort.

"The explosive device was activated in Al Zahra district. Three people were killed and 16 were wounded," the source said.
