Gas production at Iran’s South Pars gas field Phase 16 platform had been interrupted due to a gas leak from damaged marine pipeline but the situation was taken under control, the project director of Phases 15 and 16 at Pars Oil and Gas Company (POGC), said Monday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — He added that causes of the accident were under investigation.

"Presently, gas emissions from the marine pipeline are under control and the incident will be soon harnessed,” Reza Forouzesh said as quoted by the Mehr news agency, adding that "technical and operational teams have launched the process to repair the damaged gas pipeline.”

The offshore facilities of South Pars Phases 15 and 16 include two drilling platforms each containing two 32-inch submarine gas transmission pipelines and two 4.5-inch pipelines for glycol transferring.
