ANKARA (Sputnik) — People are coming to lay flowers outside the Russian Embassy building despite the enhanced security measures. The territory of the diplomatic mission is under strict surveillance and is being patrolled by police officers. The street where the embassy is located is blocked off from traffic.

The flag on the embassy building is flown at half-mast.

Karlov was shot by a gunman at an art gallery exhibition opening in Ankara. Three other people were also injured in the attack. The Russian Foreign Ministry called the incident an act of terrorism.
