Russia is distributing the majority of its humanitarian aid and medical assistance to the people in need in Aleppo, Russian Ambassador to the UN Vitaly Churkin told the Security Council on Friday.

UNITED NATIONS (Sputnik) — According to Churkin, the primary goal at the moment is an all-inclusive ceasefire and the resumption of Syrian peace talks.

"We continue to deliver large-scale humanitarian and medical assistance to the Syrian people who suffered from the conflict. Recently, the major part of Russian humanitarian aid goes precisely to Aleppo," Churkin said.

Earlier in the day, the Russian General Staff said that while militants in eastern Aleppo received food deliveries from abroad, civilians starved. Moreover, only the Syrian government and Russia currently provide Aleppo civilians with humanitarian aid, while no Western country or international organization does it.
