GENEVA (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, the chief of the Russian Armed Forces General Staff, First Deputy Defense Minister Gen. Valery Gerasimov said that the evacuation of 5,000 militants and their families is underway in eastern Aleppo.
"As a result of the negotiations at the Reconciliation Center at Hmeymim airbase, the militants have agreed to carry out the evacuation of the east of Aleppo. Representatives of international organizations have been invited to monitor the process. The first phase of the operation is evaluated as successful," the source said.
According to the Russian reconciliation center, the evacuation of militants from the city will be carried out by 20 buses and 10 ambulances via a special corridor to Idlib.
