Syrian Government Forces Allegedly Kill 82 Civilians in Aleppo - UN

Rupert Colville, spokesman for UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, stated that the UN received reports of Syrian government forces killed at least 82 civilians,including 11 women and 13 children, in four different neighbourhoods of Aleppo.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Syrian government forces and Iraqi militia allied with them have allegedly killed at least 82 civilians in their offensive on the rebel-held districts of the city of Aleppo, Rupert Colville, spokesman for UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, said Tuesday in a statement.

"In all, as of yesterday evening, we have received reports of pro-Government forces killing at least 82 civilians (including 11 women and 13 children) in four different neighbourhoods [of Aleppo] — Bustan al-Qasr, al-Ferdous, al-Kallaseh, and al-Saleheen," the UN statement said.

The agency added that the reports of these casualties could be wrong or exaggerated, but called for the situation in Aleppo to be monitored by some neutral body to avoid such suspicions.

The United Nations also urged for transparency and accountability of all parties involved in Syrian conflict.

Syria has been in a state of civil war since 2011, with government forces fighting Syrian opposition groups striving to overthrow the president. Damascus is also fighting numerous extremist and terrorist groups such as the Jabhat Fatah al Sham and the Daesh, both outlawed in Russia. According to the United Nations, at least 300,000 Syrians have died since the beginning of the conflict.
