MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Militants shelled residential neighborhoods in the northern Syrian city of Aleppo on Monday with rockets killing at least eight people and injuring 47, local media reported.
Most of the attacks' victims are children and women, the Sana news agency reported.
Militants reportedly fired four rocket shells on al-Ma’adi neighborhood killing three civilians there.
Over the recent months, Aleppo became a major battleground in Syria, engaging government forces, jihadists, and numerous opposition groups. Eastern Aleppo is currently encircled by government troops, and the fighting has affected thousands of civilians still trapped in the city.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the Syrian army liberated 96 percent of the city.
