The Pentagon has said it will commit 200 servicemen to Syria to take part in the operation to liberate the city of Raqqa from Daesh.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The United States will send an additional 200 servicemen to Syria to participate in the operation to oust the terrorist group Daesh from its stronghold in Raqqa, Pentagon spokesman Peter Cook said Saturday.

The US-led coalition of more than 60 nations has been conducting airstrikes against Daesh in Syria and Iraq since 2014; the terrorist organization has been condemned by many countries, including the United States and Russia. However, the strikes in Syria are not authorized by the legitimate government of President Bashar Assad or by the UN Security Council.
