Pentagon Preparing Proposals for Trump's Gov't to Intensify Fight Against Daesh

The US Department of Defense is preparing a number of proposals for the administration of US President-elect Donald Trump aimed at intensification of US campaign against the Daesh terrorist group, media reported citing US military and congressional sources.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to The Wall Street Journal, the Pentagon is developing these proposals in response to demands by Trump's team to enhance the US military campaign against the jihadist group.

The reduction of the White House role in making tactical and operational decisions in general and the increase of Pentagon's role in these issues will be the key proposals, according to the media outlet.

The military are also likely to propose easing restrictions on a number of US servicemen needed to take part in a concrete operation and reduction of the White House involvement in the decision making process regarding an operation or airstrike, the publication reads.

At the same time, it is noted that the new proposals will not significantly change the US general approach to the fight against Daesh. Washington will keep a limited number of troops in the Middle East relying mainly on the allied indigenous forces.

A US-led coalition of more than 60 nations has been conducting airstrikes against the Daesh radical group in Syria and Iraq since 2014. However, the strikes in Syria are not authorized by the legitimate government of President Bashar Assad or by the UN Security Council.

Daesh is outlawed in the United States, Russia and other countries.
