DAMASCUS (Sputnik) — An IED caused the explosion of the bus that was carrying Rmelan oil industry workers, Watan newspaper reported without specifying who was responsible for the attack.

Rmelan, located in the Hasakah province, is one of the largest oil production centers in Syria.

Syria has been in a state of civil war since 2011, with government forces fighting Syrian opposition groups striving to overthrow President Bashar Assad. At the same time, Damascus has to counter numerous extremist groups, in particular, Daesh, which is outlawed in Russia and many other countries.
