The Russian Emergencies Ministry has sent two Beriev Be-200 amphibious aircraft to Israel to help put out forest fires, a ministry spokesperson told RIA Novosti.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The news came after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had turned to Russia for help in fighting fires that have erupted in various parts of Israel.

"At the request of the president of the Russian Federation and in accordance with a request from the Israeli side the Russian Emergencies Ministry has sent an emergencies task force and two Be-200ChS amphibious aircraft for the extinguishing of forest fires," the spokesperson said.

He stressed that the aircraft crew have extensive experience in putting out fires and that the Be-200ChS model, equipped with infrared scanners, has been successfully used both in Russia and abroad.

Israeli firefighters have been struggling with several blazes in various parts of the country, including near Jerusalem, since the start of the week.
