The number of settlements that have joined the cessation of hostilities in Syria has increased to 972, while the number of armed groups that signed ceasefire agreements in the war-torn country has grown to 86, the Russian Defense Ministry said Wednesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — In a daily bulletin posted on its website, the MoD said that in the last 24 hours truce agreements have been reached with representatives of one settlement in Damascus province, bringing the total number of settlements that have joined the ceasefire to 972.

"Sixteen ceasefire agreements have been signed with commanders of armed groups in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number to 86," the bulletin said.

According to the document, negotiations on joining ceasefire regime have continued with field commanders of armed opposition units operating in Damascus, Homs, Hama, Quneitra, and Aleppo provinces.
