The trial of four alleged al-Qaeda terrorists suspected of an assassination attempt on late Saudi King Abdullah began in Special Criminal Court, Arab news newspaper reported.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The prosecutor presented numerous new charges, including association with al-Qaeda leaders, recruiting for the terrorist organization, following an extremist ideology, challenging the Saudi government, rifle possession and illegal relations with a number of women.

The newspaper did not provide any details on the plot to kill the monarch.

King Abdullah died in January 2015, at the age of 90, following a hospitalization for pneumonia and was succeeded by his brother Salman.
