The Palestinian inner conflict between the Fatah Party and Hamas will come to an end this year and reconciliation will take place, Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) General Secretary Saeb Erekat told Sputnik on Tuesday.

WEST BANK (Sputnik) — Erekat added that the Palestinian government was working on presenting a draft resolution to the UN Security Council that condemns settlement activities in Palestine and the attacks by Israeli settlers on unarmed Palestinians.

"This year the world will witness a shift on the Palestinian scene, where the Palestinian inner division will be sorted out and the reconciliation [between Fatah party and Hamas] will be finalized," Erekat said.

Relationship between Fatah party and Hamas have deteriorated after Hamas won the 2006 parliamentary election and took over Gaza. Repeated attempts have been made by regional forces to achieve a reconciliation between the two parties, but all efforts have so far failed.
