MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The government amended Article 6 of a regulation in the civil servant dress code which went into effect back in 1982.

"It was impossible to enjoy some freedoms at the TSK. We have made some calls to bring the freedom of dress code to this institution, as well… We are pleased with the amendment to the dress code regulation for civil servants," Civil Servants' Labor Union President Serdar Dursun was quoted by the Hurriyet newspaper as saying on Friday.

According to the newspaper, Turkish Defense Minister Fikri Isik specified that the amendment concerned only non-military TSK staff.

In August, Turkey lifted the ban on police officers wearing headscarves while on duty.
