DAMASCUS (Sputnik) — According to the Lebanese Al Manar television channel, the Syrian troops have come into positions to the east of Khan Alsheh cutting off the terrorists' escape routes.

The broadcaster added that the militants continue struggle against the government troops and even make attempts to counterattack the positions held by Damascus' forces.

As part of the so-called Arab Spring, protests in Syria erupted in 2011 and resulted in clashes between the government forces and opposition. Since then, the Middle Eastern country has been mired in a war, with the Syrian government fighting numerous opposition groups and terrorists, such as the Jabhat Fatah Al-Sham, which is outlawed in many countries, including Russia.
