MOSCOW (Sputnik) – According to the Daily Sabah newspaper, the Kurdish PKK group, considered to be a terrorist organization by Ankara, targeted the Turkey’s Gormec Battalion with long-barrel weapons late on Monday. Turkish troops reportedly returned fire, causing the militants to flee.
Following the attack, Ankara launched an air-supported operation to capture the militants, the paper reported.
Tensions between Ankara and Turkish Kurds escalated in July 2015 when a ceasefire between Turkey and the PKK collapsed over a series of terrorist attacks, allegedly committed by PKK members.
