MOSCOW (Sputnik) – She added that it was unacceptable to use the children’s issue as a political tool.

"Terrorists or the western coalition are committing such crimes and then obviously fabricating accusations against Russia. Without evidence, without fact checking they start to accuse Russia," Matvienko said.

On Thursday, Anthony Lake, the executive director of the UNICEF, said that the airstrike on the Idlib school resulted in the deaths of 22 children and six teachers.

On the same day, Russian Defense Ministry's spokesman Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov said that the investigation showed that the photos and video frames of the alleged airstrike on the school, published by some media, were fabricated. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, no Russian plane entered the area on Wednesday, when the school was hit.
