US-Led Coalition Conducts 11 Airstrikes Against Daesh in Syria, Iraq

US-led coalition air forces launched three strikes in Syria and eight strikes in Iraq against the Daesh targets, according to Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US-led coalition forces carried out 11 airstrikes against Islamic State (ISIL or Daesh) terrorists in Syria and Iraq on Tuesday, Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve said in a press release.

"In Syria, Coalition military forces conducted three strikes using attack, bomber and fighter aircraft against ISIL [Islamic State] targets," the release said on Wednesday. "Additionally in Iraq, Coalition military forces conducted eight strikes coordinated with and in support of the Government of Iraq."

The coalition airstrikes in Syria were launched near the towns of Abu Kamal, Shadaddi and Mara, and destroyed tactical units, fighting positions and vehicles.

In Iraq, the airstrikes were waged near four locations, including Mosul and Haditha, and destroyed a number of Daesh infrastructure targets, such as tunnels, mortar systems, fighting positions, communications facilities and vehicles.

The US-led coalition of more than 60 nations has been conducting airstrikes against Daesh in Syria and Iraq since 2014. The strikes in Syria are not authorized by the government of President Bashar Assad or by the United Nations Security Council.

The Daesh is outlawed in the United States, Russia and other countries.
