SOCHI (Sputnik) – Some western partners leave window of opportunity for military resolution of the situation in Syria, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov said Tuesday.
“Some continue saying that [Syrian President Bashar] Assad must either leave willingly or unwillingly, meaning they leave a window of opportunity for military resolution of the issue of the leadership of the Syrian Arab Republic,” Bogdanov said.
Russia continues to facilitate the work of humanitarian organizations in Syria, Bogdanov said.
"Everything that depends on us, everything that we can do to help the International Red Cross, different humanitarian missions, we do it … we try to help practically," he said.
Syria has been mired in civil war since 2011, with government forces loyal to President Assad fighting numerous opposition groups and terrorist organizations such as Daesh and al-Nusra Front. Since the war's beginning it has claimed lives of thousands of people and displaced millions more. The international community has undertaken steps to end the Syrian conflict and to solve the humanitarian crisis in the Middle Eastern country.
