Neither civilians nor militants used the designated routes out of the embattled city of Aleppo overnight, a security source said.

ALEPPO (Sputnik) — Syrian civilians and militants did not take the designated routes out of the besieged city of Aleppo overnight, a local security source told RIA Novosti on Friday.

"There was no activity at the checkpoints last night. Militants did not leave through Castello or Bustan al-Qasr, neither did civilians," the source said.

The Syrian army reported night-time shelling by militants in several Aleppo neighborhoods. Jihadists used firearms and heavy machine guns to provoke the military but the army did not return fire.

On Thursday, Russia agreed to halt airstrikes on Islamist positions for 11 hours a day until Monday. Eight humanitarian corridors were opened up to allow civilians and militants willing to lay down their arms to leave eastern Aleppo.
