According to the statement, two soldiers of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) were killed and 12 were injured as a result of the fighting, while the Turkish military sustained no casualties.

The FSA forces were able to release four militant-held settlements on the al-Rai and Azaz line, the General Staff stated. Since the beginning of the operation, they have retaken control over 150 settlements and an area of 1,240 square kilometers (478 square miles) in the north of Syria.

The Turkish Army launched operation Euphrates Shield on August 24 against the IS, with the goal of eliminating the threat posed by the jihadist group outlawed in Russia and many other countries, in the Syrian border town of Jarabulus and the surrounding area. According to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the aim of the operation is to mop up a territory of 5,000 square kilometers, and to establish a safe zone to accommodate refugees.
