MOSCOW (Sputnik) – According to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), the decision was made during the cabinet regular meeting earlier in on Monday, the day after Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Ahmad Sabah dissolved the country's parliament during an emergency government meeting.
The Emir cited security challenges and "the circumstances in the region" as the reasons behind his urgent move. Kuwait held its last parliamentary election in 2013.
Kuwait is located between Saudi Arabia and Iraq, both of them being engaged in military operations. In particular, Iraq has been partially occupied by the Daesh militant group, which is outlawed in Russia, and is currently witnessing a major international offensive to liberate the northern city of Mosul from Daesh. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia heads the coalition that has been conducting airstrikes on the positions of Houthi militants in Yemen.
