UNITED NATIONS (Sputnik) — Feltman on Thursday was presenting an official UN report that he said “stresses that ISIS [Daesh] and its affiliates have continued to experience significant military setbacks which have undermined ISIS’ ability to hold territory, generate assets and maintain ‘governmental structures.’”
Previous Daesh military gains have been undercut by the anti-terrorism efforts of several countries, Feltman told the Council in his presentation of the secretary-general’s third report on the Daesh. But he warned that those losses have prompted numerous Daesh fighters to return home to Europe and North Africa, adding to global security challenges.
The Daesh is outlawed as a terror group in Russia and other countries.
