WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, the coalition’s press office told Sputnik that Daesh fighters are using commercial drones to deliver explosive devices and monitor activities of the mission and Iraqi security forces.
"Additional advanced systems have been set that are capable of detecting, identifying, tracking and defeating UAS [Unmanned Aerial Systems] threats," Dorrian stated.
The spokesperson declined to provide additional details about the systems due to security issues.
Dorrian said there have been no US casualties from the drone attacks by Daesh. He confirmed, however, that two French military members sustained injuries in a drone incident which took place in Erbil on October 2.
The spokesperson said the servicemen were injured when the drone exploded during an inspection after it was shot down.
