Jabhat Fatah al Sham terrorists in Syria used the recent US-Russia peace agreement to regroup near the city of Aleppo.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Members of the Jabhat Fatah al Sham (also known as al-Nusra Front, or Jabhat al-Nusra) extremist group in Syria used the recent US-Russia peace agreement to regroup near the city of Aleppo, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.

"In the time that was supposed to be used to implement the agreements, Nusra regrouped, replenished its supplies, including weapons, changed its disposition," Zakharova said in a Wednesday interview with the Rossiya 1 TV channel.

The spokeswoman explained that the US-Russia peace agreement on Syria reached in September was supposed to ensure that none of the conflicting sides in Syria use humanitarian corridors for weapons supplies.

According to Zakharova, while the Syrian government forces fulfilled the agreements, "on the other side nobody moved a finger" to follow through with the deal.

On September 9, Russia and the United States reached an agreement for a peace process in Syria. A ceasefire stipulated by the deal entered into force on September 12, but while it was supposed to last at least seven days for the next steps to be taken toward the Syrian settlement, it disintegrated soon.

Both Syrian government forces and the so-called "moderate" opposition claimed the other side had violated the truce.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said that the United States had proven unable to meet its obligations on Syria, including unblocking the Castello road in Aleppo and differentiating between terrorists and armed opposition groups in Syria.

Syria has been mired in civil war since 2011, with government forces loyal to President Bashar Assad fighting a number of opposition factions and extremist groups, such as Daesh and Jabhat Fatah al Sham, both of which are banned in Russia and a range of other countries.
