GENEVA (Sputnik) — On September 19, a UN-Syrian Arab Red Crescent convoy carrying humanitarian aid for the Aleppo province was hit by a strike, according to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). As a result, 18 of 31 trucks were destroyed and at least 21 individuals were killed.

"With our analysis we determined it was an airstrike and I think multiple other sources have said that as well," Lars Bromley said at a briefing.

The details of the attack and perpetrators remain unclear. Several Western officials, including the ones from the White House, blamed the attack on Russia and Syria. The Russian authorities have refuted the allegations and claimed there was no airstrike, while the load of the convoy could be set on fire most probably by al-Nusra Front militants controlling the area. Moscow called for a thorough investigation into the incident.

The Russian Defense Ministry said that a US Predator drone had operated near Urum al-Kubra area north of Aleppo at the time of the attack on the aid convoy.
