The leader of the Moscow-Cairo-Astana opposition platform said it was still possible to unite Syrian opposition groups and conduct direct talks with Damascus.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — There is still a chance to unite the disparate Syrian opposition groups into one and conduct the next round of intra-Syrian negotiations directly with the government, leader of the Moscow-Cairo-Astana opposition platform Qadri Jamil told Sputnik on Tuesday.

"We were the first to demand direct negotiations. This implies the existence of a unified opposition delegation," Jamil said, underscoring the need to persuade the Riyadh-formed High Negotiations Committee (HNC).
