UNITED NATIONS (Sputnik) — The meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation scheduled on Thursday in New York aims to unite its members on the issues of Syria, Iraq and the Palestinians, OIC Secretary-General Iyad bin Amin Madani told Sputnik on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
"We have issues that are of concern to us, of course, Palestine, Syria, Iraq, between me and [US Secretary of State John] Kerry and in general, so we try to push forward those issues so that they receive the attention of the General Assembly," Madani said on Wednesday.
Madani noted that he expects the OIC member states to achieve a more coordinated stand on the issues of concern during the meeting.
The OIC meeting, Madani noted, provides an opportunity to take advantage of the presence of all foreign ministers attending the UN General Assembly.
"We meet to review the agenda of the General Assembly and try to coordinate the common issues that are being discussed by the General Assembly," Madani concluded.
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation, formerly known as the Organization of the Islamic Conference, is the second largest inter-governmental organization after the United Nations with 57 member states on four continents.
