Syria Ceasefire Holding But No Sign of UN Humanitarian Aid Entering Aleppo

The Pentagon has claimed that there's no evidence of United Nations humanitarian-aid trucks moving into the besieged city of Aleppo, despite the US-Russia brokered ceasefire in the war-ridden country is being largely upheld.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The cessation of hostilities in Syria brought about by an agreement between the United States and Russia is largely holding, but there is no evidence of United Nations humanitarian-aid trucks moving into the besieged city of Aleppo, US Department of Defense spokesman Peter Cook said on Thursday.

"We have seen the ceasefire in Syria largely hold, but we have not seen the assistance moving," Cook stated. "Syria is the major impediment to United Nations aid delivery."

Last Friday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry announced a peace plan to address Syria’s civil war that called for a ceasefire to come into force on Monday.

Washington and Moscow have said that if the ceasefire lasts for seven days, they will set up a joint implementation center to coordinate airstrikes against terrorists inside Syria.
