Turkey 'Disappointed' With Lack of EU Solidarity After Coup Attempt - Minister
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Numan Kurtulmus criticized the United States of what he called a slow reaction to the July 15 failed coup attempt in Turkey.

"The fact that [the] Americans displayed a slow reaction in the wake of the coup attempt caused difficulties for the Turkish people to reconcile this issue with the friendship [between Turkey and the United States]. And we shared this without reservations [with US officials]," Kurtulmus told journalists, as quoted by the Hurriyet Daily.

The United States condemned the failed coup a day after it was attempted, a move which Turkey didn’t like, many voices in Turkey went even further to accuse the United States of being the mastermind behind the plot, however Kurtulmus denied those accusations.

"Turkey officially does not have, and has not declared, such an assumption that American authorities are behind this coup attempt. There is no evidence or clear indication to speak towards that" Kurtulmus said.

It was reported that Kurtulmus is currently in New York holding meetings regarding the extradition of Fethullah Gulen, a Turkish Islamic Preacher who lives in a self-imposed exile in the United States.

Turkish authorities accuse him to be the man who orchestrated the attempted coup, and they have requested Washington to extradite him — something the United States have refused so far, however Kurtulmus said that Ankara was much more optimistic now.
