MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A suicide bomber blew up himself in a refugee camp in northern Iraq near the town of Makhmur on Friday, killing two people, local governor Zerkar Mohamed was cited by media as saying.

"Two people, including a Kurdish Peshmerga soldier, were killed," Mohamed was quoted as saying by the Anadolu news agency.

According to the Iraqi official, another terrorist tried to break through to the camp but was shot dead by Kurdish Peshmerga militia.

No terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far, the media outlet added.

The town of Makhmur is located to the southeast of Mosul, the second largest city in Iraq with a population of 500,000 people, that since 2014 has been controlled by the Daesh militant group, outlawed in Russia.
