Turkish police detained at least 50 businessmen over suspicion of having links with US-based self-exiled cleric Fethullah Gulen accused of orchestrating last month’s failed coup attempt, local media reported citing sources.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Istanbul police conducted searches in construction Akfa Holding and the A101 supermarket chain, the Hurriyet daily reported Tuesday. A101’s owner, Turgut Aydın along with Fatih Aktas, Akfa chairman, and his wife, Yeliz Aktas, were detained among 50 others.

According to the media outlet, police have obtained arrest warrants for a total of 120 people.

Approximately 26,000 people have been arrested since the July 15 attempted overthrow of the Turkish government that led to over 260 deaths. Ankara has requested the United States to extradite Gulen, who denies the accusations of masterminding the plot, to face charges in Turkey.
