MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Islamic State (Daesh) and Jabhat Fatah al Sham terrorist groups shelled inhabited areas in the Syrian province of Aleppo, a daily bulletin on the Russian Defense Ministry website said.

"Within last 24 hours, in the Aleppo province terrorists have shelled Ansar inhabited area, artillery school, al-Nayrab airport, and Leramon quarter in the Aleppo city with improvised artillery and mortars. Terrorists have also shelled Kabun, Huteita al-Jarash, Harasta, Zamalka, Jaubar, Duma, Haush al-Farah, Mazraat Kawkab," the bulletin said on Monday.

Syria has been mired in civil war since 2011, with government forces loyal to President Bashar Assad fighting numerous opposition factions and extremist groups. On February 27, a US-Russia brokered ceasefire came into force in Syria. Terrorist groups such as Islamic State (ISIL, also known as Daesh), as well as Jabhat Fatah al Sham (previously known as al-Nusra Front), both outlawed in Russia and a range of other states, are not part of the deal.
