MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russia’s Mi-8 transport helicopter was shot down in the northwestern province of Idlib on Monday while returning from a humanitarian mission in Aleppo. All three crew members and two reconciliation center officers on board perished in the attack classified by the Russian General Staff as a terrorist act.

Media reports alleged late Monday that dozens in the Idlib city of Saraqib suffered from toxic gas allegedly dropped after the Mi-8 helicopter was shot down.

"In this case, we do not have information on how the operation is conducted. Moreover, it is very difficult to react to such information attacks, it is not always clear on what sources they are based on," Peskov told reporters.
