Yemeni Government Delegation Leaves Peace Negotiations in Kuwait
15:56 GMT 01.08.2016 (Updated: 10:56 GMT 05.03.2023) The delegation of Yemen's government left the negotiations on peaceful settlement in the country, held in Kuwait City, a source in the airport of Kuwait City told Sputnik on Monday.
KUWAIT CITY (Sputnik) — The UN-brokered talks to end the Yemeni conflict renewed in Kuwait in mid-July after a suspension that lasted for almost three months.
"The delegation of Yemeni government that participated in the negotiations has unexpectedly left Kuwait City and set off for Riyadh, a week before the end of the term designated for negotiations," the source said.
On Sunday, Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi voiced approval of a peace agreement for the country's warring sides proposed by the United Nations. According to Sputnik's source at the Kuwait talks, the Yemeni government delegation signed the agreement before departure.
Yemen has been engulfed in a military conflict between the government and the Ansar Allah (Houthi) opposition movement, who have been supported by army units loyal to former Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh. Since late March 2015, a Saudi-led coalition has been carrying out airstrikes against Houthi positions at Hadi's request.
